Our VNAs have met the test and measurement needs of production labs, manufacturers, and academic institutions around the world. Their RF specialists work with our equipment and now recommend it to others.

Independent VNA Comparison Report

See how the Planar 304/1 Compares with Agilent E8364

The Penn State Applied Research Laboratory has provided an unsolicited, independent report on the measurement performance of the Planar 304/1 VNA compared with an Agilent E8364B PNA. Several tests were performed by the ARL, including basic performance tests with antennas (S11 parameters), filters, and amplifiers.

Dr. Daniel Valuch, CERN , Dept. BE, Radio-Frequency Group

I bought the instrument for two main purposes. First is to have them fix installed in the accelerator to do all kinds of setting up and second is the cable measurements after installation. We transmit a nanosecond long pulses from the sensors over a few hundred meter long transmission lines and our application requires a very clean impulse response to limit the inter symbol interference. Therefore every cable is carefully measured before and after installation. So far we used a large Agilent PNA type analyzer with a mobile UPS. This is heavy like hell, especially when you have to carry it deep and far into the tunnel. The TR5048 is a true blessing for me!

Denis Ng, Director of Marketing and Infrastructure Solutions for Rosenberger Asia Pacific

Thanks for lending me the VNA for trial evaluation. I have used it to test passive RF components (698 to 2700 MHz) for insertion loss and return loss. I am very pleased with the performance of the Planar 304/1. The use of a laptop interface greatly speeds up the saving of screen plots that are needed for report purposes, and the pictures can be pasted to the word file directly. Also, the weight of the equipment is greatly reduced, which makes it portable to be easily hand-carried when travelling overseas.

Elliot Riley of ARL provides comment:

"From all of the measurements taken, it can safely be concluded that the Copper Mountain Planar 304/1 Network Analyzer is just as accurate as the current Agilent E8364B PNA Network Analyzer used in the lab. The Copper Mountain analyzer provides a simple, intuitive, and smooth interface to look at measured data. The Copper Mountain analyzer even provides some other built in functionality that the Agilent analyzer does not have such as the additional RF filter statistics and the time domain analysis. Overall, the Copper Mountain analyzer seems like a great piece of test equipment."

We invite our customers to use this report to better understand the accuracy and capabilities of a Planar VNA in a variety of test applications.

On the Planar R54 Vector Reflectometer:
"What a great product, that R54! After decades of using huge, heavy, expensive vector network analyzers this thing is pure joy."

Rick Hunter, IBEX Cooks

On the Planar 304/1:

"I feel confident enough in it to say that it blows away any other network analyzer I have utilized in the last 30+ years."

Glen English, Embedded Systems Engineer at Pacific Media Technologies, Australia

On the Planar TR1300/1:

I spent this afternoon/evening using the VNA on some large filtering components and couplers.

The package is sensational. The box and software is second to no other, it has every conceivable feature and just works, no bugs found whatsoever. Great software features. Intuitive. No need to read the manual so far!

Marek Lipnicki, Advanced Cyclotron, Canada

On the Planar TR1300/1:

"I've used HP and Anritsu analyzers before, and the Planar 1300, despite its small size and low cost, offers excellent performance, high accuracy, and extensive feature set. It is a fantastic instrument!"

Brett Chermansky, Engineering Manager at JFW Industries

On the PLANAR 804/1:

The 8GHz model was nearly identical or better to the 8.5 GHz ENA Agilent unit.

Depot Support Engineer, Raytheon Technical Services

On the Planar TR1300/1:

I am very impressed with the unit's accuracy and ease of use.

RF Comunicaciones S.A.L., Spain

On the Planar TR1300/1:

"We like the device very much, especially the compactness and the unbelievable value given its expansive capabilities! We were very pleased with the manufacturer’s quick response to our request of customizing the software for our individual specific requirements. We are currently in the process of supplying a series of devices to Spain’s largest communications network. We also see great potential for the devices with a higher frequency range."

Spring Technologies Pte, Singapore

Also on the Planar TR1300/1:

"The PLANAR 1.3 GHz VNA offers excellent price/performance for any educational institution. The unit provides all conceivable functions with easy intuitive interface, thus minimizing retraining of specialists who are familiar with more expensive and branded product. We believe this is a great tool for anyone who needs to use VNA, saving cost and yet provide excellent performance. The special note is the ability of the software to adjust the output frequency of the reference generator - it is a good option that no one, except for Planar, has - a great tool to configure filters. We have bought 5 units and plan to increase the number to 100 for both educational and production environment."

R-Telecom Ltd., Bulgaria

On the Planar 304/1:

"We liked the form factor of the device very much. We compared the device with the leading brands, and, even though the measurement time is a little slow compared with Agilent, there is practically no difference with Anritsu! Our specialists were very pleased with the actual dynamic range, even though initially it was doubtful that it would be possible to achieve such dynamic range for that little money. The accuracy of the device is exactly as specified, which is even more surprising at such a price/quality ratio. The analyzer performed to expectations in all our applications. We are currently budgeting to purchase more PLANAR 304/1 units as well as the 8 GHz units."
